Wahkohtowin
At its core, the Wahkohtowin Tattoo Gathering is an expression of gratitude toward the Métis community and to Manitou, the Great Spirit, the maker of heaven and earth.
The Wahkohtowin Gathering is a celebration designed to honour and highlight the capacity of the Métis people in community. To remember the old ways. To reinforce community, to be together, and to remember that our greatest asset in life has always been and will forever be…each other.
The Wahkohtowin Tattoo Gathering was created in 2024. It is a widely celebrated annual event where a team of 10 tattooers, elders, community leaders, volunteers, entertainers, and organizers join together to gift the Metis people with 100 free culturally specific tattoos.
The gathering consists of two parts;
Day 1 is a Metis style potluck feast. Open to all. Celebrating Metis culture, cuisine, storytelling, and entertainment. The event opens in a good way with prayer and opening remarks, in Northern Michif, by our elders.
Day 2 is the tattooing portion.
It is an incredible event where the primary focus is gratitude and generosity. Generosity is a life giving thing the giver of the gift feels life the receiver of the gift feels life. Come experience Wahkohtowin with us.
